Wake Tech Basic Skills Department

Wake Tech offers one of the largest Basic Skills programs in North Carolina's community college system, serving students at campus and off-campus sites.

These programs are designed primarily to serve students who:


ABE/GED

Did not complete high school and would like to earn a General Educational Development(GED) degree, or have completed high school, but need to improve their reading, writing, and/or math skills. (ABE)


GED Online 

Prefer to study (GED-Online) for the official GED exams from their home computer.


The ILC

Prefer to work on their GED at Wake Tech's Individualized Learning Center (ILC) (Main Campus location).


Adult High School  

Left high school with 5 or less credits left to take and would like to earn an Adult High School (AHS) degree.


AHS Online

Wish to earn an Adult High School (AHS-Online) degree and needs to complete three or fewer courses to earn a high school diploma.


ESL

Want to study English as a Second Language. (ESL)


CED

Have special learning needs due to an intellectual disability. (CED)


High School +

Would like to earn a (GED) or (AHS) and a Mechanical Drafting Technology Certificate in one year.


HEP

Meet the entrance qualifications of the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) that is made possible through a grant from the United States Department of Education.


WAVES

Wake Adults Volunteering Educational Services (WAVES) is a volunteer program that offers you a chance to help other adults realize their educational dreams.


Immured Populations

Find themselves "behind walls." The Immured Population (IP) classes are for those individuals who are incarcerated, in homeless shelters, Day Reporting Centers, and/or similar settings.
